80 garbage vulnerable points to be cleaned, beautified  

Mysuru: The Mysuru City Corporation (MCC), which has launched the 80th Independence Day Garbage Vulnerable Points (GVP) elimination drive in the city, undertook cleanliness drives at Bannimantap, Gokulam and other localities.

As part of the drive, MCC staff cleared garbage and other waste dumped along the big drain near Bhuvaneshwari Kalyana Mantap in Bannimantap.

The staff then covered the spot with a white tarpaulin sheet and installed a board carrying a message on the importance of maintaining cleanliness. A warning against dumping garbage, along with details of the fines that will be imposed, has also been put up.

Meanwhile, the MCC, along with the public, undertook a cleanliness drive at Gokulam Burial Grounds and collected a huge quantity of garbage, which was transported to the waste management unit for scientific disposal.

The drive was launched by MCC Administrator Nitesh Patil, who is also the Regional Commissioner.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that it is the responsibility of everyone to maintain cleanliness. Stating that Mysuru city can be made a clean city if everyone keeps the surroundings of their houses clean, he said that the MCC has begun the cleanliness drive and the co-operation of the public was necessary.

MCC Commissioner M.K. Savitha said that as part of the 80th Independence Day celebrations, the MCC has identified 80 GVPs across the city, which will be cleaned and the spots beautified. The spots will be regularly monitored to ensure that garbage is not littered at the same places again, along with undertaking public awareness campaigns.

Urging the public not to throw garbage on roadsides and vacant places, she appealed to them to hand over the garbage to the garbage collectors who come to their doorsteps daily.

Mahesk Kumar, Development Officer Sathyamurthy, Health Officer Mruthyunjaya, Executive Engineers Srinivasamurthy and Deepak, Environmental Engineer Sridevi, Yoganand, Prakash, Harish, Ramanna and others were present.
