CAIRO – 18 December 2025: Marking International Migrants Day, observed annually on December 18, Egypt announced that it currently hosts more than 10 million foreigners, including migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers, and continues to provide them with essential services.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs reaffirmed Egypt’s firm commitment to a comprehensive approach to migration management. The approach takes into account economic, social, developmental, and security dimensions, supports migrants’ rights, promotes safe migration, and addresses the root causes of irregular migration.

The ministry noted that Egypt has historically been—and continues to be—a safe haven for those seeking refuge. This role reflects Egypt’s regional leadership and its commitment to international obligations, as well as its humanitarian and ethical responsibilities toward all individuals residing within its borders.

Egypt also reiterated its determination to combat migrant smuggling networks and curb irregular migration through an integrated strategy that extends beyond security measures to include humanitarian, social, and long-term development efforts. The approach seeks to expand safe and legal migration pathways, particularly for skilled workers, while equipping young people with the skills required for both local and international labor markets. Ultimately, the strategy aims to achieve comprehensive economic and social development so that migration becomes a choice rather than a necessity.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs further urged Egyptian citizens—especially young people—to exercise caution against fraudulent job offers abroad, particularly those promoted through websites or recruitment agencies without proper verification. It called on citizens to confirm the legitimacy of employment opportunities through official and legal channels, avoid falling victim to migrant smuggling networks, and comply with legal requirements for entry into and transit through foreign countries, including obtaining valid visas. These measures are essential to safeguarding lives, protecting human dignity, and preventing tragic incidents linked to irregular migration.
