Egypt condmens Israel’s unilateral recognition of so-called ‘Somaliland’
by Egypt Today staff · EgyptTodayCAIRO – 27 December 2025: Egypt has affirmed its complete rejection of any unilateral actions that infringe upon the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of states, stressing that such actions violate established principles of international law and the Charter of the United Nations.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Egypt reiterated its strongest condemnation of Israel’s unilateral recognition of the so-called “Somaliland,” describing the move as a flagrant violation of international law and the UN Charter. Egypt warned that such actions undermine the foundations of international peace and security and contribute to instability in the Horn of Africa region.
The statement emphasized Egypt’s firm rejection of recognizing any parallel entities or attempts at secession carried out through illegitimate or illegal means.
Egypt also reaffirmed its full support for the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Somalia, in line with international law and the United Nations Charter. It rejected any unilateral measures that would infringe upon Somali sovereignty or undermine stability in the country.
Earlier, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a statement declaring Israel’s official recognition of the “Republic of Somaliland” as an independent and sovereign state. Netanyahu was quoted by Reuters as saying that the move was “in the spirit of the Abraham Accords, signed at the initiative of President Donald Trump.”
In March, American and Israeli officials told the Associated Press that the United States and Israel had discussed with three African parties - Sudan, Somalia, and Somalia’s breakaway region of Somaliland - proposals related to relocating Palestinians from the occupied Palestinian territories to African territories.
