Darren Jackson

A "jealous" man who bombarded his ex with phone calls and threats has been locked up. Darren Jackson was handed a restraining order against his former partner in January this year.
However in June, the 37-year-old, from Gateshead, began calling her repeatedly and threatening her. He questioned why she had a man in the house and called her a "f***ing bike".
Katie Spence, prosecuting, told a court how the woman initially received 20 missed calls, and she unblocked him on WhatsApp as she was concerned for her children's safety, and he asked her: "Why have you got another bloke in the house?", before she received a further 40 missed calls.
He was arrested outside of the Plough Pub, where the woman was with her mother. When a female police officer went to arrest him, Jackson kicked her in the thigh.
Jackson, of Split Crow Road, Deckham, Gateshead, pleaded guilty to stalking, three counts of breaching a restraining order, sending a malicious communication and assaulting a police officer. He was sentenced to 26 months behind bars. Read the full story here.(Image: Northumbria Police)

Mark Hutchinson

A convicted domestic abuser left his partner struggling to breath after strangling her on Valentine's Day. Mark Hutchinson put both of his hands around his girlfriend's neck during an argument.
Newcastle Crown Court heard how the woman tried to ring 999 but it did not connect and she sent a safe word to her sister. The court in Newcastle heard how this led to the 37-year-old looking through her phone.
The woman was spoken to by officers outside of the property following the incident on February 14 this year. She was in a distressed state, her voice was hoarse and she was coughing and wheezing.
Hutchinson, of Hedley Place, Wallsend, denied any strangulation and suggested he wouldn't be physically strong enough to do it. He later pleaded guilty to one count of intentional strangulation.
He has three previous convictions for five offences, with all of them being incidents of domestic violence. The judge sentenced him to 32 months in prison, saying that, due to the severity of the incident, only immediate custody would be justified. Read the full story here.(Image: Northumbria Police)

Steven Wilson

A homeless man violently attacked a woman who let him stay in her home twice in less than a week. Newcastle Crown Court heard how Steven Wilson kicked the woman and bit her when she came home late from work.
Five days later, the 47-year-old called her offensive names after she went out for a drink. He grabbed her by the throat and punched her several times to the face.
The court heard how on January 26 this year, the victim got home late from work and Wilson started to shout at her. When she went to leave, he pushed her to the ground and kicked her, causing bruises to her thigh, and continues the assault by biting her on the left shoulder.
Five days later, she returned home, and was called a s**g and a tart, with the prosecution saying: "He threw the victim onto the settee, got on top of her, grabbed her by the throat with his right hand and punched her several times to the face."
Wilson, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm. He was sentenced to eight months in prison, will be released immediately due to the time he has already served on remand, and was also handed a five-year restraining order.
