Joanne's sister Grace, 28, was working in the South Tower that day and managed to escape. Kieran Gorman Construction worker Kieran Gorman, from Sligo, was working on the 97th floor of the South Tower on the day of the tragedy. He had recently made a trip home to Ireland to accompany his wife and their two kids back from a holiday. The young dad was not meant to be at work that day but was offered an extra shift which he took. Kieran’s wife Anne was expecting the couple’s third child at the time but he did not live to see the birth of his baby son and namesake later that year. The 35-year-old was working with block layers when he heard the plane hit. He called his wife and told her he was trying to escape. Sadly, he perished inside and it took six months for his remains to be recovered on March 19, 2002. Kieran was laid to rest in his native Sligo on March 27, 2002.

He had previously flown to Boston from Paris where he was working at the time and was headed to a conference in Los Angeles. Patrick was due to meet family members for a holiday in Spain at the end of the month and celebrate his 53rd birthday. But five hijackers seized control of the plane and crashed it into the North Tower at 8.46am, killing all onboard. Patrick’s family knew he was in Boston but were not overly concerned at first, however, they later got a call from a friend confirming the news that Patrick had been on board Flight 11.
