Person rescued from mud flats on River Dart

A casualty was rescued from mud flats near Totnes as a helicopter was seen in the area this afternoon (Friday, July 17).

The incident happened opposite Longmarsh on the River Dart as multiple emergency services attended the incident.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue were called to the incident with crews from Totnes being dispatched.

When crews arrived at the scene, members of the public provided information that the casualty was located on the opposite side of the River Dart.

Crews relocated before making their way on foot to Headcliffe Point, via the coastal path, then along the foreshore to reach the casualty.

Firefighters administered first aid before other emergency services were called to the incident due to the location and the nature.

The Coastguard Rescue Helicopter and the Dartmouth RNLI attended the incident to assist the operation.

The fire service rescue boat brought the casualty across the river to Longmarsh and handed them over to paramedics from the South Western Ambulance Service.

A spokesperson for Totnes Fire Station posted on Facebook: "We would like to thank everyone who assisted by providing information at the scene and for your patience while emergency services carried out the rescue.

"Finally, we wish the casualty a full and speedy recovery."
