Last week, officials in Buenos Aires released the body to his family, enabling them to bring it back to the UK. Accompanying his son’s body on the flight was Liam's father, Geoff, with the body reportedly being taken to Liam's birthplace in Wolverhampton.
Recently, Argentine officials announced the charging of three individuals in connection with Liam Payne's untimely death. The individuals face accusations relating to "abandonment of a person followed by death" and narcotics supply offences.
His former bandmates from One Direction – Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik – are among the personalities expected to attend the fineral in the Home Counties. Payne's girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, along with industry mogul Simon Cowell, will also be present, according to reports.
In the wake of the tragedy that unfolded on October 16, Geoff flew to Argentina and visited the scene of his son's fatal incident, where he viewed the tributes left by fans. A heartrending account to a publication from a close source revealed: "Geoff is living every parent's worst nightmare. He has been so moved by the outpouring of love and the tributes that have come in from across the world", reports the Mirror.
It has emerged that before his untimely death, the devoted father of one, shared with Cheryl Tweedy, had visited Buenos Aires for visa updates and to see Niall perform at Movistar Arena. His family has expressed their grief, stating: "We are heartbroken. Liam will forever live in our hearts and we'll remember him for his kind, funny and brave soul."
Three individuals have been charged related to Liam's untimely passing. The Argentinian public prosecutor's office has conveyed that "exhaustive and meticulous measures were taken to clarify the circumstances" surrounding the 31 year old father's demise.
The prosecutorial statement outlined: "Based on the evidence gathered and after analysing the various bodies of proceedings and numerous documentary annexes and the background of the case, prosecutor Andres Esteban Madrea formally charged three people, requesting their questioning and arrest in a 180-page ruling presented last Friday to Judge Bruniard."
They announced that one of the accused had been accompanying the singer in Argentina daily and is charged with abandonment of a person followed by death, which might lead to a 15-year sentence. Another charge involves an employee from the hotel where Payne was staying, while the third relates to allegations of providing drugs.
Nine raids have been launched on properties in Buenos Aires as investigations intensify, with some of Payne's devices currently under scrutiny. The office confirmed that a meticulous review of over 800 hours of security camera footage has been completed, alongside the accumulation of numerous statements from hotel staff, relatives, friends, and healthcare providers.
Prosecutors disclosed that there are no signs suggesting third-party involvement in the fatality and have also dismissed the possibility of "self-harm", this conclusion supported by a forensic psychiatric evaluation.
