The two previously lived in California but reportedly sold their home in August 2024. They later bought a property in the Cotswolds, England — which Ellen has said was originally meant to be a "a part-time house," but they decided to stay after Donald Trump's reelection in November 2024.

"We got here the day before the election and woke up to lots of texts from our friends with crying emojis, and I was like, 'He got in,'" she said at an event in July 2025, per the BBC. "And we're like, 'We're staying here.'"

Ellen added, "We love it here... Everything here is just better — the way animals are treated, people are polite. I just love it here."

Still, a real estate source told People that Ellen eventually "grew tired" of the UK — though that doesn't mean she's moving back to the US full-time.

"She's not moving back to the U.S.," a source said, adding that Ellen will "continue to split her time between both the U.K. and Montecito, [Calif.]."

As for why, the source said the couple is "missing the California weather and horse scene."
