James Carville Is Saying That Trump Just Delivered The Biggest Self-Own In Presidential History

Longtime Democratic strategist James Carville said this weekend that Donald Trump may have just made “the greatest admission against interest in the history of the presidency.”
Trump acknowledged last week that he hasn’t been thinking at all about Americans’ financial situations as they deal with rising costs linked to his Iran war.
Speaking to the New York Times, Carville offered faint praise of the president, noting that the comment at least wasn’t “pandering.” But, “it’s what lawyers call an admission against interest,” he added. “It’s the greatest admission against interest in the history of the presidency.”
Multiple Republicans initially pushed back on Trump’s remarks, including Vice President JD Vance, who said: “I don’t think the president said that — I think that’s a misrepresentation.”
Trump, however, later doubled down on the comment, which critics have suggested will make perfect fodder for Democratic attack ads in the upcoming 2026 midterm elections.
