Abbotsford police investigating homicide at unhoused encampment

Just after 6 p.m., Abbotsford police (AbbyPD) were called to the Peardonville unhoused encampment for a report of a fire.

Upon arrival at the on provincial land within on South Fraser Way, officers found a fire limited to a single wooden structure.

After putting the fire out, Abbotsford Fire Rescue Service found a man dead.

Investigators have determined this to be a homicide.

One man has been taken into custody.

AbbyPD confirm that this was an isolated and targeted homicide and the public is not at risk.

The investigation has been transferred to the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT).
