Vancouver man arrested after allegedly stealing, crashing Kamloops city bus, police say

A Vancouver man has been arrested and charged after allegedly stealing a Kamloops city bus and then getting into a collision with a pickup truck Saturday evening, the RCMP says.

Officers were called to Lansdowne Avenue near 6th Avenue shortly before 10 p.m. after a report of the crash.

“When officers arrived, they learned a 55-year-old man from Vancouver had stolen the bus while the driver had temporarily stepped away,” said Staff Sgt. Shoihet.

“Soon after, the suspect drove into the back of a pick-up truck that was traveling westbound in the 500-block of Lansdowne Street.”

The man has been charged with motor vehicle theft, dangerous operation of a conveyance, uttering threats, and theft $5,000 or under. He remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court May 5.

Shoihet says no injuries were reported.

Mounties say traffic was disrupted briefly after the incident while an investigation was underway.
