The Abbotsford Police Department (AbbyPD) says it took 12 commercial vehicles off the road in a single day due to safety issues.

On April 9, police worked with the Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement (CVSE) and the Passenger Transportation Branch to inspect commercial vehicles to ensure they comply with provincial safety standards.

“Officers were set up along the Sumas Bypass throughout the day to inspect commercial vehicles and ensure compliance with safety regulations,” the AbbyPD said.

Police say they inspected 24 separate vehicles and observed 91 separate violations. Ten commercial vehicles were taken out of service, and two others were towed away.

In addition, they issued 22 violation tickets and ordered inspections for three of the vehicles.

The AbbyPD says it conducts these inspections to address safety concerns and prevent collisions and other serious incidents.
