A 7-year-old boy has been making headlines after his father made a 'rash decision'. If the reports are to be believed, the seven-year-old kid was asked by his father to wait on Mount Fuji while his father continued climbing with his other child. The incident has been discussed and has also renewed warnings about the risks of climbing challenging mountains with kids and the importance of staying united, as conditions may change quickly.
The 7-year-old boy was left at the sixth station, which is roughly 2500 metres above sea level, and the summit was several hours away; thus, leaving a kid there, that too alone, sparked a conversation. So, here's what exactly happened and why the little one was left alone on the mountain, where the weather reportedly even changed, with rain starting and fog appearing.
A 7-year-old kid was left alone in the mountains by his dad, who continued hiking with his elder son
The 7-year-old kid, who reportedly is an elementary school student, went on the Fujinomiya Trail with his father and brother. The 48-year-old father, reportedly from Nagoya, asked his 7-year-old son to wait after leaving him at the sixth station, then continued to the summit with his elder son. Reportedly, the father made the decision after the 7-year-old told him he was feeling exhausted. Rather than waiting for the little one and stepping back for rest, the father decided to go on, leaving the child alone.
The boy was reportedly left with no money and was carrying some snacks and water. He was reportedly found sitting on a bench and later discovered by a hut worker. Reportedly, the weather was getting cloudy, and fog was gathering with rain. The hut worker took the boy inside a hut and sheltered him before contacting the police.
The father of the 7-year-old kid reacted after he left his kid alone on Mount Fuji
The authorities then arrived and eventually found the father at the eighth station. From the sixth station to the summit, it might have taken several hours, and thus, the father's alleged decision to leave his son alone on the mountain, that too in deteriorating weather, faced severe criticism. According to Japan Today, the authorities found the father and ordered him to return to his son, while slamming him for his rather 'unacceptable' behaviour. Japan Today quoted an officer allegedly saying:
"Even if it means having to give up on climbing the mountain together, leaving a child behind is unacceptable."
The same report by Japan Today revealed that the dad then admitted to making a mistake and a rash decision, and he also reportedly expressed regret. If the reports are to be believed, the authorities further asked the climbers to plan their pace and climbing goals after minutely checking their partners' stamina and other factors needed for the climb.
To mention, the Fujinomiya Trail is one of the routes that is used to climb Japan's highest peak, and thus, leaving a kid alone there is something that ended up bringing the father a lot of flak. The father, while regretting, reportedly said:
“I made a rash decision, and I deeply regret it.”
