Trump Threatens To Destroy Iran Power Plants

United States President Donald Trump has threatened to destroy Iranian power plants if Tehran does not reopen the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours.

Trump issued the ultimatum Saturday on Truth Social, giving Iran until Monday evening to fully reopen the strategic waterway.

If Iran doesn’t FULLY OPEN, WITHOUT THREAT, the Strait of Hormuz, within 48 HOURS from this exact point in time, the United States of America will hit and obliterate their various POWER PLANTS, STARTING WITH THE BIGGEST ONE FIRST!” Trump wrote.

Trump posted the threat at 7:44 pm Eastern Time Saturday, setting his deadline to expire Monday at 7:44 pm Eastern Time (3:14 am Tuesday in Tehran).

Naija News gathered that the threat marks an escalation from Trump’s previous rhetoric. He had suggested hitting Iranian infrastructure before, but cautioned it would damage the country’s ability to rebuild.

Trump’s threat, which came one day after he said America was considering “winding down” military efforts in the Middle East, has been received with mixed feelings. He told reporters Friday that the Strait of Hormuz would eventually “open itself” when asked about plans to restore shipping.

The 48-hour ultimatum represents Trump’s most direct threat against Iranian civilian infrastructure since the conflict began on February 28.

Destroying Iran’s power plants would affect millions of civilians and could violate international laws governing warfare, as electricity infrastructure serves essential civilian needs, including hospitals, water systems and communications.
