The United States Ambassador to Nigeria, Richard Mills, on Thursday lauded former Nigerian President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, as a “repository of knowledge” following a private meeting at Obasanjo’s residence in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The one-hour meeting at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library was described by Mills as a valuable discussion with the former Nigerian leader, who he praised for his insights and historical understanding of Nigeria.

Mills expressed admiration for the library, calling it a “fascinating place” that captures the optimism Nigerians hold for the future.

“It is fascinating. It captures the real moment in time when there is so much hope in Nigeria. And, I think we all want to see that come back,” Mills said, describing the library as an essential piece of Nigerian history.

A statement by Obasanjo’s media aide, Kehinde Akinyemi, revealed that the ambassador also toured the library and its facilities, calling his discussion with Obasanjo “open and frank.”

“He is a friend of the United States, and we always learn from a visit to former President Obasanjo,” Mills said, reflecting on the importance of the dialogue.

Obasanjo expressed appreciation for the visit, noting that the ambassador’s arrival in Nigeria in August had been marked by a demanding schedule, making Thursday’s meeting an especially welcome occasion.
