Myanmar authorities have arrested 60 illegal Chinese nationals involved in online scam and gambling operations during separate raids in Tachileik and Myawaddy, according to official reports.

The Myanmar government has been intensifying efforts to combat online fraud and illegal online gambling activities, while also coordinating with neighboring countries to prevent such operations from taking root inside the country.

As part of ongoing clearance and inspection operations, joint security forces carried out raids in targeted areas on May 22.

In eastern Shan State, authorities raided a house in Pansali village, located in Loisatone village tract, about 7,800 meters northwest of Tachileik. During the operation, security forces arrested 33 illegal Chinese (male) suspected of operating online scam and gambling activities.

Officials also seized 32 all-in-one computers, 20 tables, and 35 chairs believed to have been used in the illegal operations.

In a separate operation conducted on the morning of May 22 in Kayin State, authorities raided a two-story building near Mae Htaw Thalay village, approximately 1,800 meters northwest of Myawaddy.

During the raid, security forces arrested 27 illegal Chinese allegedly involved in online scam and gambling activities. Authorities confiscated four all-in-one computers, 14 monitors, 20 CPUs, and 43 mobile phones from the site.

Investigations into the cases are ongoing, officials said. After the necessary investigations are completed, action will be taken against the illegal foreign nationals involved in the online gambling scam in accordance with existing laws.

The state is continuing to implement programs to combat online gambling scams in cooperation with neighboring countries, regional countries, and international organizations to eliminate online gambling scams and prevent them from establishing operations in Myanmar.
