Tornado Damages More Than 70 Homes in Mon State’s Paung Township
· Eleven Media Group Co., LtdA tornado struck Kadar Ward in Paung Township, Mon State, at around 7:30 p.m. on 5 July, damaging more than 70 homes and several public buildings, according to local residents.
The twister swept through Kadar New Town and nearby Kadon Si Ward in about five minutes, tearing roofs off houses, toppling trees and power poles, and causing a power outage across the area.
A monastery near Shin Upagutta Lake was among the hardest hit. Two monks were injured, one of them seriously. Damage was also reported at the township immigration, irrigation, cooperative and road department offices, as well as Mindan Basic Education High School.
Firefighters, police, municipal workers, charity groups and local residents have been clearing debris and assisting affected communities.
The latest tornado follows a series of similar storms that hit Paung Township in late July 2025, when more than 350 homes were damaged and at least 14 people were injured.
