President U Min Aung Hlaing meets Roscosmos Director General to discuss nano-satellite development and space cooperation

President U Min Aung Hlaing, who is currently on an official visit to Moscow, Russian Federation, received a courtesy call from a delegation led by Mr. Dmitry V. Bakanov, Director General of the Russian Federation’s state-owned Roscosmos Corporation, at the hotel where the President is staying at 12:30 pm local time on August 19.

During the meeting, they discussed the signing of an agreement between Russian Space Systems (RSS) and the Myanmar Space Agency on Earth Observation Satellite (ERS) imagery acquisition and the status of data collection. They noted that direct cooperation between the two space agencies marks a significant milestone in the multifaceted cooperation between Russia and Myanmar and contributes to the development of Myanmar’s space technology.  They also discussed the Agreement on Cooperation in the Exploration and Use of Outer Space for Peaceful Purposes signed between the governments of Myanmar and the Russian Federation, as well as the Memorandums of Understanding and agreements signed during the President’s visit between the Myanmar Space Agency and Roscosmos to jointly implement the cosmonaut selection and training programme, the satellite-based search and rescue system (COSPAS-SARSAT), the satellite navigation system measurement station (One Way Station), and the near-Earth space hazard automatic warning system (ASPOS). In addition, discussions covered the selection and training of Myanmar astronauts; the implementation in Myanmar of the international satellite-based search and rescue system (COSPAS-SARSAT), One Way Station, ASPOS, and the Rassvet low-Earth-orbit communications satellite system; the construction and launch of nanosatellites; and continued efforts to strengthen space-sector cooperation between the two countries for the advancement of Myanmar’s space technology and human resources, as well as broader development across various sectors.

Union ministers accompanying the President as members of the delegation, the Chief Executive Officer of the Myanmar Space Agency, deputy ministers, the Myanmar Ambassador to the Russian Federation, and other officials attended the meeting. The Russian side was represented by the Director General of Roscosmos, the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Myanmar, and other officials.
