The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on Disaster Management (AHA Centre) has provided humanitarian assistance to people in Kayin and Shan states.

According to the announcement, the AHA Centre, with the assistance of the Myanmar Red Cross Society, has been distributing humanitarian aid, including bags of rice, household items and personal hygiene supplies, to households in Hlaingbwe, Kawkareik and Hpa-an townships in Kayin State and Taunggyi Township in southern Shan State from October 28 to November 10. It will also distribute assistance in Nawnghkio and Kyaukme towns in northern Shan State from November 16 to November 30.

ASEAN has been providing humanitarian assistance to Myanmar through the AHA Centre since September 2021 in two phases: Phase 1 (Life-Saving Assistance) and Phase 2 (Livelihoods and Life-Sustaining Assistance).

Under Phase 1, from September 2021 to March 2024, medical supplies and equipment worth more than US$15.6 million were distributed to hospitals and healthcare facilities in Nay Pyi Taw and various regions and states to support COVID-19 prevention, control and treatment, with assistance from the Myanmar Red Cross Society.

In addition, humanitarian and recovery supplies worth more than US$1.6 million and US$730,000 were provided to people affected by Cyclone Mocha in 2023 and Typhoon Yagi in 2024, respectively. Humanitarian assistance worth more than US$1.4 million was also provided for relief and rescue efforts following the Mandalay earthquake.

Phase 2 assistance began in May 2023. As of September 2026, food and non-food items, household supplies and personal hygiene products worth approximately US$8.04 million had been distributed with the assistance of the Myanmar Red Cross Society and other partner organizations.

The total value of ASEAN humanitarian assistance provided to Myanmar through the AHA Centre from September 2021 to September 2026 has reached approximately US$27.4 million.

The Myanmar Government has also been allowing the ASEAN Monitoring Team (AMT), led by the AHA Centre Executive Director and comprising representatives of ASEAN member states' embassies based in Yangon, to conduct on-the-ground observations of the AHA Centre's humanitarian assistance distribution activities. From November 2021 to July 2026, the AMT conducted 18 monitoring visits, including 17 in-person visits and one remote observation.

The AHA Centre is an organization established to promote cooperation among ASEAN member states, as well as with the United Nations and other international organizations, in disaster management and emergency response across the ASEAN region. It is based in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Myanmar has been fully cooperating with the AHA Centre in implementing ASEAN humanitarian assistance to the country through the Centre, in accordance with Point 4 of the Five-Point ASEAN Statement, and will continue such cooperation.
