Myanmar will begin teaching industrial, agricultural, and livestock subjects to Grade-6 to Grade-9 students starting in the upcoming academic year in June, according to Union Minister for Education Dr. Chaw Chaw Sein. Curricula are currently being revised to support the new subjects.

The minister made the announcement on February 21 during a visit to Basic Education High School No. (1) in Pathein, accompanied by Deputy Minister Dr. Zaw Myint and regional officials. She stressed the importance of exam security for upcoming Grade-5, Grade-9, and Grade-12 government exams, and called for timely distribution of textbooks for the new school year.

Subject specialists will provide training to middle school teachers to ensure effective teaching of the new courses.

During the trip, officials also visited Pathein Education Degree College, where preparations are underway to upgrade it to university status, including new buildings and student hostels. At Pathein University, the minister urged faculty to prioritize research, saying universities without research are like “music without instruments.” She encouraged academic staff to produce research at both national and international levels.
