Four children drown while swimming in Zalat Htaw Reservoir in Bago

Four children drowned while swimming in the Zalat Htaw Reservoir near Sab Kyar Kyin Village in Wa Mayan Village Tract, Bago Township, according to local sources.

A local resident said the incident occurred on the afternoon of May 22 when the children were swimming in the reservoir.

“The children are from Kyaik Pon Ward in Bago. They went swimming in the reservoir on their way home from tuition classes and accidentally drowned,” the resident said.

The victims were identified as 10-year-old Maung Phyo Zar Ni Lin from EC Private High School, 10-year-old Ma Thadar Shun Lei from B.E.H.S Bago, 11-year-old Ma Poe Waddy from B.E.M.S Bago, and 13-year-old Ma Su Pon Chit from No.10 B.E.M.S Bago.

Social welfare organizations transported the bodies to Bago General Hospital, and the funerals were held on May 23.

No.3 Bago Police Station has opened a case regarding the incident and is conducting further investigations into the cause of death.
