Tanintharyi Region Chief Minister meets emergency rescue teams to discuss search and rescue operations for flood- and landslide-affected residents

Tanintharyi Region Chief Minister U Zaw Naing Oo met with emergency assistance and rescue teams to discuss search and rescue operations for people affected by flooding and landslides, it is reported.

It is reported that the Regional Chief Minister met the emergency assistance and rescue teams that had arrived to provide necessary support in response to natural disasters occurring in Launglon and Thayetchaung townships in Tanintharyi Region in Dawei on October 1.

It is reported that Chief Minister U Zaw Naing Oo and members of the regional government visited the Zambuthiri Emergency Ambulance and Rescue Team office in Dawei, where they met with assistance and rescue teams from nearby and other areas that had arrived to conduct search and rescue operations for people affected by flooding and landslides, provide emergency patient assistance and rescue services, and carry out relief and support activities, and coordinated the necessary measures.

The Chief Minister said that timely assistance should be provided for search and rescue operations and emergency patient assistance needed by people affected by floods and landslides, adding that additional equipment, including machinery, would be sent as necessary.

He also said that manpower, vehicles and machinery, fuel and rescue equipment required for ongoing rescue operations would be provided to ensure effective operations. He added that priority would be given to relocating residents to safe areas as quickly as possible and ensuring access to emergency healthcare services.

He urged charitable and social assistance organizations participating in rescue operations to systematically coordinate with relevant departments, obtain and share accurate information in a timely manner about disaster-affected areas and their needs, and coordinate efforts to ensure rescue teams can reach areas in need as quickly as possible. He also said that, while emergency search and rescue operations were being carried out, rehabilitation activities would likewise be undertaken effectively and with full effort. He expressed his sincere appreciation to the teams for coming to assist in the region and met, greeted and encouraged the rescue personnel.

It is also reported that charitable organizations and volunteers from Mon State, Kayin State, Yangon Region and other areas have arrived in disaster-affected areas to provide assistance. Meanwhile, rescue teams from Myeik District, Bokpyin District and Kawthoung District in southern Tanintharyi are reportedly unable to travel due to flooding and landslides.
