Woman Killed in Hit-and-Run as Family of Three Is Struck While Cycling Home

A woman was killed after a family of three was hit by a vehicle while cycling home from work in North Okkalapa Township, according to reports.

The accident occurred at around 9:30 p.m. on March 3 near the base of a bridge in North Okkalapa Township. After receiving news of the incident, members of the Winyanmu Social Assistance Association rushed to the scene.

“We went there as soon as we heard the news at night. A car hit a family who were cycling home from work. Both the father and the mother were seriously injured and had to be taken to the hospital. We had to comfort their two-year-old child. Sadly, while receiving treatment, the mother passed away,” said U Tun Myat Nyunt, chairman of the association.

The deceased woman was 31 years old. The family is reported to live in a neighborhood west of the Tooth Relic Pagoda compound.

Following the incident, members of the Winyanmu Social Assistance Association and donors visited the victim’s home to offer support and donations.

According to the victim’s family, authorities are searching for the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run using CCTV footage. The relevant police station is continuing its investigation into the case.
