Two Fathers Go Missing While Accompanying Children at Mandalay Children’s Hospital

Two fathers from Shwebo Township went missing on September 26 while accompanying their children who were receiving medical treatment at Mandalay Children’s Hospital, according to their families.

At around 9am on September 26, U Zaw Myo Oo, 33, the father of eight-year-old Ma Su Htet Htet Zaw, who was being treated in Ward 2 on the fourth floor of the hospital’s eight-storey building, left the hospital while accompanying his daughter and did not return.

Another father, U Hlaing Tin, about 35, whose four-year-old son Maung Thet Htoo Aung was also receiving treatment in the same ward, reportedly went missing on the same day.

According to Daw Nan Nwe, wife of U Hlaing Tin, the family noticed he was missing after he failed to return by noon after going out to buy medicine and food. Witnesses reportedly said the two men had been seen leaving through the front of the hospital together. Both families are from villages in Shwebo Township and the men reportedly knew each other after meeting at the hospital.

“We still have no contact with him,” Daw Nan Nwe said.

Daw San San Win, wife of U Zaw Myo Oo, has also reported her husband’s disappearance to the relevant police station, but said the family has still been unable to contact him.
