Heavy Rain Causes Flooding on Meiktila–Taunggyi Road in Thazi Township

Heavy rainfall caused flooding and water overflow on the Meiktila–Taunggyi highway in Thazi Township, according to the Myanmar Fire Services Department.

At around 5 a.m. on May 18, flooding was reported between mileposts 5/23 and 5/24 near Maezali Kan Village in Hlaingtet village tract, Thazi Township, along the Meiktila–Taunggyi road. Firefighters from the Thazi Township Fire Station and Hlaingtet Area Fire Station, along with reserve fire brigade members, were dispatched with a fire engine to assist travelers and help ensure safe transportation through the flooded area.

The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology stated that heavy rain fell in parts of Mandalay Region, Tanintharyi Region, and Mon State within the past 24 hours.

The weather agency also reported that during the previous 24 hours, moderate cloud cover developed over Nay Pyi Taw, Magway Region, and the lower part of Sagaing Region. Widespread rain and thunderstorms occurred across Tanintharyi Region and Mon State, scattered rain fell in Mandalay Region and eastern Shan State, while isolated rainfall was recorded in Kachin State, Kayin State, and northern and southern Shan State. Other regions and states also experienced scattered showers and thunderstorms, with locally heavy rain reported in Mandalay Region, Tanintharyi Region, and Mon State.
