Ethiopian ambassador to Myanmar pays courtesy call on President U Min Aung Hlaing
· Eleven Media Group Co., LtdMr. Daba Debele Hunde, Ethiopia’s Ambassador to Myanmar based in Tokyo, paid a courtesy call on President U Min Aung Hlaing at the President’s Office in Nay Pyi Taw on Thursday morning ( July 30) as he prepares to leave his post upon completion of his diplomatic assignment.
The meeting was attended by President U Min Aung Hlaing, Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe and senior officials. The Ethiopian ambassador was accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Worknesh Biru, a member of Ethiopia’s House of Representatives and former Deputy Minister of Culture and Sports, as well as embassy officials.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed efforts to further strengthen diplomatic relations between Myanmar and Ethiopia. They also exchanged views on recent political developments in both countries, including Myanmar’s successful holding of a free and fair multiparty general election and the formation of a government elected by the people, as well as Ethiopia’s successful election held in May and the new government’s assumption of state responsibilities.
They also discussed plans to promote bilateral relations through reciprocal goodwill visits by senior officials.
Particular attention was given to peace efforts aimed at ending internal conflicts. The two sides discussed opportunities to exchange experiences in peace building and plans to send peace-related teams from the two countries on study visits to learn from each other’s experiences.
The meeting also covered ways to strengthen relations and cooperation between the two countries’ parliaments.
The two sides exchanged views on instability in border areas and its impact on national development, the country’s image and development efforts. They also discussed the need to address border-related issues effectively and the systematic repatriation of foreign nationals who have illegally entered the country through border areas to their respective countries.
In addition, the meeting discussed expanding bilateral cooperation across various sectors, including agriculture, trade and tourism, as well as increasing people-to-people exchanges between Myanmar and Ethiopia.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening friendship, mutual understanding and cooperation between the two countries.
At the conclusion of the meeting, President U Min Aung Hlaing and Ambassador Daba Debele Hunde exchanged commemorative gifts and posed for a group photograph with those present.
