Minor earthquake strikes near Dedaye close to Yangon

A minor earthquake struck near Dedaye Township on May 22, according to the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology.

The department stated that the earthquake occurred at 4:56:11 pm. Myanmar Standard Time and was measured at magnitude 3.8 on the Richter scale.

The quake’s epicenter was located about two miles north-northeast of Dedaye Township in Myanmar, approximately 34 miles southwest of the Kaba Aye seismic station. It occurred at a depth of 12 kilometers, with coordinates recorded at latitude 16.44 degrees north and longitude 95.89 degrees east.

Officials described the earthquake as a minor tremor. The quake was also felt in areas near Yangon.

Earlier this month, another earthquake measuring magnitude 5.2 on the Richter scale struck near Kyauktan Township in Yangon Region.
