Union Minister for Transport, Digital Development and Communications U Mya Htun Oo has called for the systematic installation of communication and electrical cables in Yangon Region, and urged action against vehicles fitted with power exhausts and those involved in group racing-style driving.

He made the remarks during a coordination meeting on the systematic installation of communication and electrical cables held at Mingalar Hall of the Yangon Region Government Office on May 1.

The Union Minister stressed that relevant departments and telecommunications companies must collaborate to ensure cables are installed in line with the city’s layout. He noted that the existing underground cable network along Pyay Road has been successfully implemented and should be expanded as planned to Kabaraye Pagoda Road, Waizayantar Road, and across districts in the region. He added that township-level coordination committees and district-level cable clearance teams should carry out the work systematically, with support from the regional government and the Department of Communications. He also urged the four telecom operators to cooperate and share resources to help address challenges, including those linked to the ongoing global fuel crisis.

He further said that unregulated entry of motorcycles and trishaws into Yangon should be controlled, and that effective action must be taken against vehicles with power exhausts, racing-style group driving, and illegal parking in accordance with traffic regulations.

At the meeting, Yangon Region Chief Minister U Aung Naing Thu outlined ongoing and future efforts to ensure systematic installation of telecommunications and electrical cables, as well as proper parking management in the region. Director General of the Department of Telecommunications U Myo Swe also presented updates on telecommunications service licenses and highlighted areas requiring coordination with operators.

The meeting was attended by the Union Minister, the Yangon Region Chief Minister, Chief Justice of the Yangon Region High Court Daw Sandar Twe, regional government members, departmental heads, district administrative officials, representatives of telecommunications companies, and other officials.
