Mortar explosion in Kyaikto Township kills woman, injures teen granddaughter in ongoing conflict

In the town of Theinzayat, Kyaikto Township, Mon State, a woman was killed and another injured in a mortar explosion on the evening of November 5, according to local sources.

Around 7 p.m. on November 5, a mortar shell exploded near a monastery in the Myayadana neighborhood of Theinzayat. A local resident reported that the explosion injured Daw Khin Myint, a woman living in a nearby home, with severe head injuries, resulting in her death shortly afterward.

The resident added, “Daw Khin Myint’s 17-year-old granddaughter, Ma Lae Lae San, also sustained injuries to her left arm and leg from the mortar shell fragments. She has been taken to Theinzayat Station Hospital for treatment.”

The local resident noted that mortar explosions frequently occur in neighborhoods and villages around Theinzayat in Kyaikto Township.

On October 22, another mortar explosion in Thonegwa Village, Theinzayat, injured a woman and damaged a home, according to reports from locals.
