President, Thai Deputy PM discuss expanding cooperation across agriculture, energy, investment sectors
by EMG · Eleven Media Group Co., LtdA delegation led by Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, paid a courtesy call on President U Min Aung Hlaing at the Presidential Palace in Nay Pyi Taw on the morning of April 22.
During the meeting, both sides reaffirmed the long-standing friendly relations between Myanmar and Thailand as good neighbors and discussed ways to further strengthen bilateral cooperation. Talks focused on promoting peace and stability along border areas, combating drug trafficking and online gambling, addressing cross-border smog, and reopening trade routes to boost border trade. They also exchanged views on Myanmar’s plans to hold free and fair multiparty democratic general elections, ongoing efforts toward internal peace through dialogue, cooperation on humanitarian matters under the ASEAN Five-Point Consensus, and Thailand’s participation in Myanmar’s peace process. In addition, both sides agreed to continue enhancing cooperation across multiple sectors, including agriculture, livestock, investment, electricity and energy, and manufacturing.
The meeting was attended by Union Minister for the President’s Office U Khin Maung Yi, Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Tin Maung Swe, Union Minister for National Planning, Investment and Foreign Economic Relations U Aung Kyaw Ho, and Union Minister for Electricity and Energy U Ko Ko Lwin. The Thai delegation included advisors to the Foreign Minister, H.E. Mr. Kallayana Vipattipumiprates and Gen. Nothapol Boonngam, along with officials from the Thai Embassy in Myanmar.
