Electricity and Energy Minister, PTTEP CEO discuss new wells to boost Yadana Project output
by EMG · Eleven Media Group Co., LtdUnion Minister for Electricity and Energy U Ko Ko Lwin met with the Chief Executive Officer of Thailand’s PTTEP International Limited at the Yenanttha Guest Hall of the Ministry of Electricity and Energy in Nay Pyi Taw on May 8 to discuss measures to boost energy production, according to sources.
During the meeting, both sides discussed expanding cooperation between Myanmar and Thailand in the electricity and energy sectors, increasing oil and gas production, and strengthening security along the Myanmar–Thailand natural gas pipeline routes. These issues were also raised during the April 2026 courtesy call by Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs on the President of Myanmar.
Discussions focused on technical solutions for drilling new and additional wells to increase output from the Yadana project, where production has been declining. The two sides also discussed development of the M3 (Aung Thinkha) block to support electricity generation in Myanmar, investment opportunities in secure deepwater offshore projects, and cooperation to enhance pipeline security.
The meeting was attended by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, directors general and managing directors from relevant departments, as well as officials from PTTEP International Limited.
