Union parliament approves appointment of anti-corruption commission chair and members

The Union Parliament has approved the appointment of U Soe Thein as Chair of the Anti-Corruption Commission, along with eight other members, during its session held on April 9.

The formation of the new Anti-Corruption Commission follows nominations submitted by the President-elect. The list includes three nominees selected by the President-elect, three chosen by the Speaker of the Pyithu Hluttaw (Lower House), and three nominated by the Speaker of the Amyotha Hluttaw (Upper House). The nominations were announced by the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw Speaker during the parliamentary session on April 7.

As no objections were raised during the session held today, the Union Parliament officially approved the appointments.

The newly formed commission will be chaired by U Soe Thein. Its members include U Kyaw Win Thein, Deputy Lieutenant General Win Zaw Moe, Dr. Tun Tun Oo, U Lunn Baw, U Kyaw Soe Nyunt, U Toe Ree, U Tin Aung Win, and U Min Han.

U Soe Thein, the newly approved chair, previously served as Chief Minister of the Yangon Region Government.
