Britney Spears Claims her Mother Once Killed a Cyclist in DUI Arrest Video
by Bethy Squires · VULTUREBritney Spears says her mother, Lynne Spears, hit and killed a cyclist “And nothing happened to her.” TMZ obtained the footage of Spears’s March 4 DUI arrest, during which Spears talks about that time her mom allegedly killed someone. When the cop cautioned Britney about the dangers of drunk driving, she replied “Yes, sir, I know. My mom accidentally killed a man on a bike … but I never did that before.”
Lynne Spears actually confirms this story in her memoir, Through the Storm. In that book, she says she killed 12-year-old Anthony Winters in 1975, driving her brother to the hospital. “The roads were slick with rain, and as I was rounding the curve, an oncoming car was coming in the left lane,” she writes. “In a split second I could see two young boys riding their bikes on the road. In that flash of time, I had a sick sensation that I would hit one of them, that it would be impossible not to, as I knew my car would not stop, no matter how hard I slammed on the brakes. One boy managed to get his bike out of the way, but his friend, a 12-year-old boy whose house was right by the scene of the accident, was hit.”
“Why didn’t they arrest her? How come my mom got away with everything?” Spears asks in the arrest video, adding that her mom “tried to kill” her too. This could be a reference to Spears’ conservatorship.
Spears pleaded guilty on May 4, with her attorney accepting a lesser charge of reckless driving on her behalf. She was sentenced to one year probation and will have to complete a three month alcohol school. Spears voluntarily entered rehab this April, after her arrest but ahead of her arraignment.
