World War Z Is Back From the Dead

World War Z 2? It’s alllliiiiiivvveeeee. Deadline reported that Brad Pitt is reanimating the corpse of his 2013 hit World War Z for a sequel. Reportedly, Paramount has closed a deal not just to have Pitt produce and star, but to have All Quiet on the Western Front and Conclave director Edward Berger direct. It shouldn’t be too much of a surprise that this movie was a priority for Paramount: Skydance, which just bought the company, was a producer on the original film. Dennis Kelly (Matilda: The Musical) will write the script, again based in the world of Max Brooks’s 2006 zombie-apocalypse novel, which did not have a sequel of its own.

This is not the first time Paramount has attempted a sequel to World War Z. The movie was originally going to be helmed by J.A. Bayona. After he departed the film, David Fincher signed on in 2017, but left in 2019 due to budgetary concerns, per the Wrap. Since then, the project has been on hold. Now, between this and the upcoming Once Upon a Time in Hollywood sequel The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth, Pitt is ready to get some sequels going for real. Anyone up for Tree of Life 2 next?
