Scooby-Doo and Shaggy Are Going Monster Hunting in Japan

by · VULTURE

What’s new, Scooby-Doo? He’s heading to Japan to eat some yummy food, maybe do a little sightseeing, and — oh, god! He’s just unleashed a bunch of monsters all across Japan. Thankfully, the pooch is good at catching them. Yokoso Scooby-Doo!, a new anime from Warner Bros. Animation and Tubi, follows Scoobs and Shaggy as they wrangle up some monsters with the help of Scooby’s uncle, Daisuke-Doo, and new friends Yume and Takumi. Frank Welker and Matthew Lillard both reprise their roles as Scooby and Shaggy for the new series. Lillard teased the project last month in an interview where he thanked nostalgia for fueling his career. He didn’t mention a whole new animation style for Shaggy!

“Scooby-Doo is one of the most beloved franchises in entertainment, and YOKOSO SCOOBY-DOO! lets us reinvent it in a way fans haven’t seen before,” Adam Lewinson, Chief Content Officer at Tubi, shared in a statement. “By bringing Scooby and Shaggy into a bold anime world set in Japan, we’re connecting with global fandoms and delivering the kind of fun, chaotic mystery that travels across generations. As we grow our animation slate, this is exactly our brand of fan-first storytelling—familiar, surprising, and unmistakably Tubi.” Scoobs and the gang have always found new ways to adapt with the times: from the Universal Studios Fan Fest interactive mystery to Netflix’s upcoming live-action adaptation, it makes sense that the two biggest foodies in Mystery Inc would also want to try every flavor of Japanese Kit Kats.
