The Force Is Mid With The Mandalorian & Grogu’s Box Office
by Bethy Squires · VULTUREThey said The Mandalorian & Grogu would be the lowest-grossing Star Wars movie on its opening. And they were right, but only barely. The TV-to-film play by Disney was tracking to take in between $74 million and $90 million over Memorial Day weekend. Instead the film has already made $82 million and is predicted to hit $102 million by the end of Monday. That still makes it the lowest-performing Star Wars movie, with Solo: A Star Wars Story bringing $1 million more over the same timeframe, Memorial Day weekend 2018. And that’s before adjusting for inflation.
Keeping on the optimistic side, the audience score for M&G are better than S:ASWS, indicating the movie might still have legs. Then again, many people may just be waiting for Mando and the baby to go home to Disney+ before checking them out. But don’t Rotta the Hutt’s abs deserve to be seen on the big screen? A space slug with abs, the human mind cannot comprehend such sights.
