American Vandal Is Getting a Really Weird Third Season
by Bethy Squires · VULTUREIf I had a nickel for every time Jimmy Tatro has starred in a mockumentary parodying the true crime genre… American Vandal star Jimmy Tatro is set to play Gorilla Grodd in The People V. Gorrilla Grodd for HBO Max. The show will also star Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Superman’s pal. Other Superman (2025) stars are making the move from big to little screen, including Beck Bennett as Steve Lombard, Mikaela Hoover as Cat Grant, and Wendell Pierce as Perry White. This is in line with James Gunn and Peter Safran’s mandate that actors play their DCU characters across properties, from movies to animation and back.
New to the DCU will be Mary Holland (Ghosts), Eduardo Franco (also American Vandal), Arian Moayed (Succession), Andrew Leeds (Bones), and Tim Baltz (Widow’s Bay). Serving as showrunners are — we kid you not — American Vandal’s Dan Perrault and Tony Yacenta.
We also know what crime Olsen will be investigating, and it’s a little bit bigger than drawing dicks on cars. “A superintelligent ape (Tatro) is convicted of murdering his father, the King of Gorilla City,” the logline reads. “In an eight-part ‘true’ crime docuseries, the Daily Planet’s Jimmy Olsen (Gisondo) reopens the case, investigating whether Gorilla Grodd was wrongly convicted in one of Metropolis’ most famous murder trials.” The last crime Grodd committed on television was in Legends of Tomorrow, when a time-traveling Grodd tried to kill one Barry Obama at Occidental College. And if that crime was mentioned during Grodd’s murder trial, the defense probably does have grounds for an appeal, as past acts can’t be admitted as evidence, even when they are hilarious.
