Truth Is Coming Out…: PM Modi Lauds Vikrant Massey Starrer ‘The Sabarmati Report’

Bhubaneswar: This truth is coming out, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Sunday while praising the recently-released film ‘The Sabarmati Report’.

Reacting on a tweet on the Vikrant Massey-starrer film based on the events leading up the Godhra train burning incident of 2002, PM Modi wrote: “Well said. It is good that this truth is coming out, and that too in a way common people can see it. A fake narrative can persist only for a limited period of time. Eventually, the facts will always come out!”

The earlier tweet by one Alok Bhatt mentioned: “…it is worth introspection for all of us as to how the brutal burning of passengers of the Sabarmati Express was turned into a political minefield by a vested interest group, who saw it as a means to tarnish the image of one leader. Their ecosystem peddled one lie after another other just to satisfy their own petty agenda.”

Earlier in May while addressing an election rally in Bihar’s Darbhanga, Modi had alleged that the then Railway Minister (Lalu Prasad) “acted in connivance with the Congress”, which headed the UPA-1 government at the Centre, to set free the accused in the train burning incident.

‘The Sabarmati Report’ investigates the events and causes behind the tragic death of 59 people, mostly Hindu pilgrims and karsevaks returning from a ceremony in Ayodhya, on February 27, 2002, when a coach of Sabarmati Express was set on fire, while focussing on the workings of a broadcast channel that manipulates its coverage to favour the then-ruling party.

Massey essays the role of a vernacular journalist in the film directed by Dheeraj Sarna. It made Rs 1.25 crore on day 1 (November 15), which was a decent number considering that it was a niche film and released in only about 600 screens. The collection touched Rs 2 crore on Day 2, according to Sacnilk.com.
