Bhubaneswar: Even as many teams were deployed for rescue and relief operations in different districts of Odisha during cyclone Dana, some people have drawn wide applause for their acts of bravery while saving lives in the midst of the disaster.

The brave hearts will be remembered for the exemplary courage shown when severe cyclonic storm Dana hit the Odisha coast in Bhitarkanika in Kendrapada district.

Among those who turned saviours for scores of people in need help in the emergency situation is Manas Kumar Mallik. Engaged as an employee for 108 ambulance in Rajnagar block of Kendrapada district, he saved the life of a patient during the storm without bothering about his own safety.

A video of Mallik running in the field while carrying a female patient from a long way to the ambulance was shared by Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida.

“A patient’s life was saved due to the bravery of Manas Kumar Mallik, the 108 ambulance worker of Rajnagar block of Kendrapada district during the storm. Kudos to him for his bravery and humanity. Wishing him a bright future,” Parida said in a post on X handle.

Health and Family Welfare Minister Mukesh Mahaling also spoke to Mallik over phone and hailed his act of bravery during the disaster.

Like Mallik, ASHA worker Sibani Mandal also shifted several elderly people in the district to the shelter by carrying her on her shoulder. She won applause from many spheres for her dedication.

The video of Mandal went viral on social media and she received praises from different quarters including Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi.

The CM on Friday issued order for allotment of a house to the ASHA worker in appreciation of her efforts to shift people to a safe place before cyclone Dana.
