Imphal: The simmering tension resulted in a fresh bout of violence in Manipur, forcing the administration to take extreme restrictive steps.

Curfew was imposed in Imphal West and Imphal East, while internet services were suspended in seven districts as people protested after six bodies, including those of an infant and two children, were found in Jiribam. They were allegedly kidnapped by militants and killed.

Internet was suspended in Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishnupur, Thoubal, Kakching, Kangpokpi and Churachandpur districts for two days given the current situation in the northeastern state.

Widespread violence was reported from several areas of the Imphal Valley districts as mobs stormed residences of several MLAs and destroyed property.

Two of the targeted legislators were Sapam Nishikant Singh and RK Imo.

Miscreants destroyed the gate and bunkers built in front of the gate of Keishamthong MLA Nishikant’s home. The mob then attacked Sagolband MLA RK Imo’s home, and burnt furniture and shattered windows.

Three women and three children, who had taken shelter in a relief camp, went missing after a gunfight between security forces and militants on Monday.

Their bodies were found near a river in the remote village of Jirimukh, along the Manipur-Assam border on Friday evening, PTI reported.

The bodies were taken to Silchar Medical College Hospital (SMCH) for postmortem.
