A 66 year-old Irish pub barman has been left fighting for his life after two thugs dressed as Amazon delivery workers attacked him in his own home.

George "Dirk" Hardison, a bartender at O'Connell's Irish Pub in Savanah, Georgia was lured to the door of his residence on Saturday morning, expecting a parcel due to the convincing Amazon uniforms the attackers wore.

Instead, he faced a brutal attack as the men forced their way in and savagely beat him with a sledgehammer for an excruciating eight minutes, WTOC reports. The chilling assault was caught on camera, showing Dirk's desperate cries for help.

Neighbours who came to his rescue found him soaked in blood with severe head injuries. He was rushed to hospital where he received 14 staples to his head.

The assailants made off with just €77 ($80) following the vicious attack. Security footage captured the suspects, described as two black males in their 20s with medium brown skin tones, wearing what appeared to be Amazon gear and masks, fleeing with a package.

With the perpetrators still at large, police are appealing for witnesses. In support of Dirk, O'Connell's Pub, where he works as a bartender, has launched a GoFundMe page, with a statement saying: "The police are investigating this heinous crime, but in the meantime, let's show Dirk the love and support he deserves," according to Mirror US, reports the Mirror.

The men can be seen approaching Mr. Hardison's home.

Amazon has made a formal statement regarding the incident, asserting: "Based off our internal investigation, we can confirm that these individuals were not making a scheduled delivery for Amazon. We monitor the Internet regularly for unauthorized Amazon apparel and demand that those items be removed when and where we can. People who make deliveries on behalf of Amazon do not routinely knock on doors nor ask customers to sign for packages unless already prearranged."

This announcement came in the wake of a series of related crimes, including the arrest of a fake firefighter who allegedly used his disguise to steal during the devastating LA wildfires. The supposed thief was caught looking sheepish as police took him into custody, wearing an outdated California Fire jacket amidst the turmoil of the Pacific Palisades fire last Saturday afternoon.

LAPD also reportedly apprehended an alleged accomplice nearby the scene of the first arrest. Both were taken into custody close to the iconic Getty Villa, which just missed being engulfed by the flames, although it's still uncertain if they were actually found with any stolen items.

Photographer Eric Fox recounted to The Daily Mail: "We saw the one subject wearing the old CDF (California Department of Forestry) jacket riding his moped up PCH. The other subject was riding a scooter. By the time we pulled up to the checkpoint to tell the deputies, they had already detained them. He was the only one wearing a fire uniform."
