Birmingham Airport bomb threat: Passengers asked not to attend and all flight suspended

by · Irish Mirror

Birmingham Airport is currently closed and all its flights suspended after a reported bomb threat.

Passengers are being asked not to attend as police deal with an ongoing "incident". Some people on flights that have landed at the airport have reported being stuck on their planes.

Meanwhile cars arriving at the airport have also been turned away.

A tweet from the Birmingham Airport account at 1.34pm reads: "West Midlands Police is currently on-site dealing with an incident. Airport operations are currently suspended. Passengers are advised to NOT come to the airport at this time. The Airport’s social media channels will be updated as and when the situation changes."

Police said they were responding to reports of a "suspicious vehicle" seen on site and described the closure as a "precautionary measure".

One eyewitness told Birmingham Live that a bomb disposal team had been seen at the airport, though this had not been confirmed by police. One person writing on social media said they had been evacuated from the airport concourse to the NEC, a conference centre located nearby.

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: "Birmingham Airport is currently being evacuated following a report of suspicious vehicle. This is a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of passengers and staff."
