President Masoud Pezeshkian said his government has adopted new measures to manage the country’s “special conditions” as economic pressure grows. He said that in recent months the enemy’s plan has been to hit Iran’s vital arteries so that ordinary Iranians feel the pressure. Pezeshkian said the pressure has increased, but with public support and the steps taken by government colleagues, the enemy has not been allowed to reach its aims in the economic war.
The Iranian rial has meanwhile fallen to a new low, even as the central bank sells dollars to support it. Elsewhere, two oil tankers were hit in the Strait of Hormuz, fighting goes on in Yemen, and an Israeli air attack has killed at least five people in Gaza City.
India has said it remains committed to the safety of its seafarers after five Indian nationals were rescued in the Strait of Hormuz, Khaleej Times reports. The waterway is a key route for oil and cargo bound for India, and many Indian sailors work on ships that pass through it. More attacks on tankers there could push up shipping and insurance costs and raise concern for crews. Separately, flights between Iran and Iraq are due to resume on Sunday, according to AFP.
Key world developments:
- Yemen: Yemeni government forces say they are hitting “legitimate vital military targets” in Sanaa, the capital held by the Houthis. Heavy fighting continues on the western edge of Taiz city.
- Hormuz tankers: The UK Maritime Trade Operations centre says “unidentified projectiles” struck two oil tankers in separate incidents in the strait.
- Iran’s blockade: Iranian media says another tanker “in violation” of Tehran’s blockade has exploded.
- Indian seafarer: India reaffirms seafarer safety after 5 nationals rescued in Hormuz.
- Iran’s economy: The rial hit a new low and the central bank is selling dollars to support it, while the president says new measures are being adopted.

Israel had names before flydubai FZ1073 took off, failed to flag Omani co-pilot: Report
Before Flydubai flight FZ1073 left Dubai for Tel Aviv on Wednesday, Israeli officials already had the names of everyone on board. The list of crew and passengers had been sent to them in advance, according to Israeli newspaper Haaretz. Yet the Omani co-pilot, who is now accused of attacking Indian Captain Smit Machchhar and trying to crash the plane, was not flagged.
Now the questions are about who knew what before take-off, and why a man who had reportedly been barred from flying in his own country was in the cockpit at all. Haaretz, quoting security sources, reported that Israel’s Transport Ministry and the Mossad were meant to check the crew list. The Israel Tax Authority confirmed it received the list. The Transport Ministry would not say whether it went through it.
According to Haaretz, Israeli government officials received the crew and passenger list ahead of the flight. Three people with knowledge of the matter, including a Gulf diplomat and a Western diplomat, told the AP news agency that the co-pilot is Hamam al-Hammami, an Omani national. They spoke without giving their names.

'You don’t want it too hot...too good': Jaishankar calls for a 'Goldilocks scenario' to navigate US-China rivalry
Against the backdrop of sharpening geopolitical competition between the United States and China, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has advocated for a "Goldilocks scenario" in global power dynamics.
Speaking at the Munich Leaders Meeting, Jaishankar highlighted how emerging and middle powers must navigate an increasingly fractured global order through self-reliance, strategic hedging, and pragmatic partnerships rather than rigid alliances.
"The landscape today is primarily marked by a radical repositioning of the United States... a posture of choice [where] it has deliberately become a lonelier power. The second feature of the landscape is, of course, the rise of China... And we are looking at very sharp competition," Jaishankar said. (ANI)

UAE shared details about FlyDubai flight with Israel, including pilots' names, nationalities
Authorities in the United Arab Emirates shared with Israel a list of passengers and crew ahead of the FlyDubai flight on which a pilot attempted to seize control of the Israel-bound aircraft and crash it, regional officials said Sunday, raising new questions over how the attacker evaded detection.
While the investigation continues, preliminary details about the incident have highlighted several major security lapses.
Officials have already said the Omani co-pilot had been barred from flying by his own country because of concerns about his extremist views. It also remains unclear how a citizen of Oman, an Arab country that has no diplomatic relations with Israel, was allowed to fly a plane loaded with Israelis to Tel Aviv. (AP)

US deploys third aircraft carrier, up to 10,000 troops near Iran as war enters eighth month
The US is deploying a third aircraft carrier strike group and thousands of additional troops to the Middle East, adding to the roughly 50,000 US service members already stationed in the region. By the end of November, three aircraft carriers and two amphibious landing groups are expected to be positioned near Iran, according to Al Jazeera.
The deployment comes as Washington and Tehran weigh further escalation and diplomatic engagement. Indirect talks have made little progress, with Iran seeking sanctions relief, unfreezing of assets and guarantees against further strikes in return for reopening the Strait of Hormuz and resuming nuclear talks, while the Trump administration has rejected the proposal.

Trump’s ‘drug factories’ claim about Iranian nuclear sites appears to be a mistake: Report
US President Donald Trump’s claim that Iranian nuclear facilities targeted by the US were also “drug factories” appears to have been a verbal mistake, according to a CNN analysis. Nuclear expert James Acton said he had never heard a credible allegation that the Fordow facility was being used for drug production.
Trump made the remarks while discussing the US strikes on Iranian nuclear sites in June 2025, shortly after speaking about efforts to combat illegal drug trafficking in the Caribbean and Venezuela. The White House declined to explain the comments, while Acton said the more plausible explanation was that Trump simply misspoke.
