A private bus lost control and overturned into a roadside drain along the highway near Aymangala in Hiriyur taluk of Chitradurga district, Karnataka. The driver and cleaner were killed on the spot, while more than 15 passengers sustained injuries in the accident.

Kurla crane accident

Eight people were injured after a crane collapsed in Qureshi Nagar in Mumbai’s Kurla on Friday, officials said. According to the Junior Engineer of L Ward, who was present at the site, the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority was preparing to carry out an eviction and demolition drive in the area. The accident took place while the crane was being mounted with the help of a Poclain machine. Six injured persons were admitted to Sion Hospital, while two others were taken to Kurla Bhabha Hospital. Information about their condition is still awaited.

Karnataka identifies 911 illegal immigrants in 3 years; 365 linked to criminal cases

Karnataka has identified 911 illegal immigrants in the state over the past three years, of whom 365 were linked to criminal cases, according to a written reply by Home Minister Priyank Kharge in the state Legislative Council on Thursday. The reply came in response to a question raised by Karnataka Legislative Council member H S Gopinath on August 20. Among the 911 illegal immigrants identified, 868 were from Bangladesh, followed by Pakistan (20), Nigeria (13), Sri Lanka (8), Myanmar (1) and Uganda (1). Kharge said the verification was carried out as part of an exercise to identify and verify foreign nationals residing in Karnataka, including those allegedly staying without valid documents or beyond the period permitted under their visas.

Pakistan ex-PM Imran Khan shifted to Islamabad hospital

Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan was shifted to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad from jail early on Friday for a medical examination, according to his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party. This came after a long-standing demand from Khan’s supporters, who have raised concerns about his deteriorating health during his three years in prison. Later, news agency Reuters, citing a television channel, reported that he had been taken back to prison from the hospital. However, there has been no official confirmation of his return to prison.
