I’ve Never Lost an Election – Asiedu Nketiah
by Stephen Zoure · MyNewsGh.comNational Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, says his political career has been marked by electoral success, insisting that he cannot recall losing any election he has contested.
Speaking in an interview on Ambassador TV Monitored by MyNewsGh.com, Mr. Nketiah said the only time he did not emerge victorious was when he voluntarily stepped aside during a run-off out of respect for an elder contestant.
“I don’t remember contesting and losing an election,” he stated.
He explained that the contest was for the position of Presiding Member, where a second round of voting became necessary after neither candidate secured the required votes.
“It was in one instance that there was a run-off, then we had to go for another round, but I decided to sit back and allow the elder with whom I was contesting to take the win,” he recounted.
Mr. Nketiah said the same individual later contested him for a position on the Consultative Assembly after he had expected the elder to support his candidature.
According to him, he chose to contest and eventually defeated his former opponent after presenting a message that resonated with the delegates.
“He came with the message that he had attended prestigious universities outside the country and was the best representative. I told them to allow the local boy to go so that we would see whether local knowledge would work,” he said.
Mr. Nketiah noted that the victory became a defining moment in his political journey and eventually allowed him to contribute to Ghana’s constitutional development.
