Police arrest five suspected armed robbers, recover 3 AK-47s and 357 rounds
by Miss Naa · MyNewsGh.comPolice have arrested five suspected members of a gang accused of attacking gold dealers, mining sites and communities across parts of the Ashanti and Western regions.
The suspects were picked up during intelligence-led operations conducted between August and September 4, 2026. Police also reported that another suspect, 40-year-old Seidu Salifu, d!ed during the operations.
Three AK-47 rifles, 357 rounds of ammunition, five magazines and two vehicles were recovered.
Police said the gang operated around Wassa Akropong, Diaso, Dome, Abofour Camp and the Manso enclave. One of the suspects, Salifu, had been standing trial over a 2025 robbery involving gold bullion at Offinso Abofour.
In a separate operation on August 21, police arrested four suspects linked to the r0bbery and m¥rder of gold buyer Seth Kobina at Agona Fie near Agona Nkwanta.
Two locally manufactured pistols, five live BB cartridges, a metal bar and two cutlasses were recovered.
The police have since deployed special teams to the affected communities as investigations continue.
