Police hunt for inmate who didn't return after compassionate leave

A Papakura man who failed to return to prison after being granted compassionate bail is actively avoiding authorities, say police.

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Daniel Rawiri, 29, who was granted compassionate bail by the courts on 27 May.

Detective Senior Sergeant Simon Taylor said police knew Rawiri was aware that they were looking for him.

"The public should not approach Rawiri, but if you do see him call 111 instead."

Taylor said Rawiri has connections across the south Auckland and Waikato regions.
