Murder charge after man fatally stabbed in Auckland CBD
· RNZA 23-year-old man charged with murdering a man in central Auckland yesterday has appeared in court this afternoon.
Police say the victim was found critically injured on Wellesley Street East about 6.45pm last night.
He died shortly after being taken to hospital.
The accused made his first appearance in the Auckland District Court this afternoon.
He was granted interim name suppression and remanded in custody to appear in the High Court next month.
Emergency services were initially alerted to a fight involving several people known to each other.
Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Scott Wilson, of the Auckland City CIB, said the victim was taken to hospital but died on arrival.
A scene guard is in place while inquiries continue.
Wilson said no one else was being sought in connection with the death.
