by · Newcastle Herald
Pre-poll in the Newcastle lord mayoral by-election will run for a week.

Early voting for the Newcastle lord mayoral by-election will run for one week in the lead up to polling day.

It is about a month until Newcastle elects a new lord mayor after the resignation of Ross Kerridge due to side-effects of cancer treatment.

The NSW Electoral Commission has announced six pre-poll locations for the April 18 election.

The locations are:

  • Adamstown Senior Citizen Centre
  • Fletcher Community Centre
  • Mayfield Church of Christ
  • New Lambton Community Centre
  • Newcastle City Hall
  • St Lukes Wallsend Coad Hall

All six locations will open for early voting on Saturday, April 11 and will open each day until Friday, April 17 with the exception of Sunday, April 12.

All locations will be multi-ward booths, meaning voters from all four council wards can vote at any pre-poll location.

The ballot order for the six lord mayoral candidates was set on March 19.

Candidates will be listed in the following order:

  1. Socialist Alliance candidate Stephen O'Brien
  2. Independent candidate Gavin Morris
  3. Greens candidate Charlotte McCabe
  4. Liberal candidate Jenny Barrie
  5. Labor candidate Declan Clausen
  6. Independent candidate Milton Caine

Postal vote packs will be mailed to voters from Monday, March 23. Postal voting applications close on Monday, April 13.
