Motorcyclist killed in early-morning collision with kangaroo

A motorcycle rider has died after colliding with a kangaroo north of Newcastle.

Emergency services were called to Tuncurry Tip Road, Darawank, near Forster, just before 7am on Tuesday following reports of a single-vehicle accident.

Officers from Manning Great Lakes Police District found a 37-year-old male motorcyclist dead at the scene.

A dead kangaroo was also found nearby with injuries suggesting it had collided with the motorcycle and died on impact.

Police are urging anyone with information about the incident or who was in the area at the time with any available dashcam/mobile phone footage to contact Taree Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.

Meanwhile, three people were also injured on Tuesday morning in a three-car crash in Pokolbin.

A man in his 50s suffered a back injury and two women in their 20s sustained arm injuries in the accident at the intersection of Wine Country Drive and Broke Road.
